Temple Questions

How big was the Temple curtain?

Thanks for your question. In the first Temple there was a wall dividing the holy and the holy of holies. This wall was approximately half a meter thick, a curtain covered the wall. In the second Temple there was no wall but two curtains separating between the holy and the holy of holies. Each curtain was 10 centimeters (4in') thick with the height of 20 meters (22 yds)by the length of 10 meters(11 yds).

Blessings,

How much did the Temple curtain weigh?

What a wonderful question. The Temple curtain situated between the holy and the holy of holies was 10 meters by 20. Its thickness was approximately 8 centimeters. That would make the weight approximately between 4 to 6 tons depending on the materiel used. In fact the Talmud teaches us that it took some 300 priest to carry it to its place.

Yours, The High Priest

My friend and I are having a biblical debate. It boils down to this; in the Temple where is the “altar”? Is it in the “sanctuary”?

In both Temples there were two altars 1) the golden alter used daily to burn the holy incense on.The 2nd alter was the sacrifical alter which of cause was used for the sacrifices. It was located outside in the courtyard of the Priests.

Blessings,
The High Priest
